Impact of Healthcare Reform on Small Businesses: Business Association of Mt. Airy Quarterly Workshop

Philadelphia, PA, October 4, 2012—The Business Association of Mt. Airy (BAM), in conjunction with small business advocacy organization Small Business Majority, and the National Physician’s Alliance will host an interactive event on Tuesday, October 16th, on healthcare reform’s benefit to Pennsylvania small businesses.

The event, which is open to all small business owners, will feature a panel of experts discussing the topics most relevant to small businesses. These include small business tax credits, the state’s work setting up a health insurance exchange, wellness grants and cost containment. It will also give small business owners a chance to provide the panel ideas and suggestions on how to proceed with implementing healthcare reform in the state. A question and answer period will follow the panel discussion.

“There have been many reforms to our healthcare system over the past year, both nationally and in Pennsylvania,” said Erica Dowell, Eastern Outreach Manager for Small Business Majority. “It’s important that small business owners hear about how many of the new healthcare law’s business-friendly provisions can help, and also for them to tell us what the state can do to make healthcare reform work for them.”

Additional panelists include Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, President of the National Physicians Alliance, a multispecialty physician organization founded to promote health and foster active engagement of physicians with their communities to achieve high quality, affordable health care for all. Dr. Arkoosh is also a local resident.

“It’s important for small business owners here in the Mt. Airy area to learn more about healthcare reform and how it affects them,” said Elizabeth Moselle, Director of Commercial Corridor Revitalization and the Business Association of Mt. Airy at Mt. Airy USA. “This interactive dialogue is a great way for them to get the information they need to take advantage of and comply with key provisions of the new law.”

The event will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 5 pm – 6pm at Wine Thief Bistro, located at 7152 Germantown Avenue. Admission is free for members of BAM, and $5 for non-members. Wine Thief Bistro is offering 15% off food for participants who choose to stay for dinner afterwards. Small business owners can register by contacting Elizabeth Moselle at or (215) 844-6021.
