Lovett Park Project
Coming Soon: A vibrant neighborhood park, bustling with activity, located in the heart of Mt. Airy at 6945 Germantown Ave.
Already home to popular events such as the Moonlight Movies in Mt. Airy summer film series, Lovett Park will enliven Germantown Avenue by providing new spaces to read, relax with friends, and enjoy outdoor performances and special events. This new community hub will also help to better connect sections of Mt. Airy’s Germantown Avenue commercial corridor and encourage pedestrian activity.
Sunday, September 7th
Come join a community outdoor drum circle from 1-3 PM at the Lovett Library Park (6945 Germantown Ave).

The Plan for the Park
What's do we have to look forward to in Lovett Park? Visitors approaching the main entrance to Lovett Memorial Library will enter the Porch, a welcoming courtyard for library patrons. Beside the Library an outdoor Reading Garden will create a quiet area for reading and reflection, while the Story Ring can be used for storytelling, classes, or informal group meetings.
The Plaza along Germantown Avenue will include café tables and chairs, providing a convenient spot to eat lunch outside during the workday, or to dine al fresco in the evenings. This seating area overlooks the Nature Play, an area for creative play designed using natural elements. In the back of the park, the Amphitheater will improve Lovett Park’s ability to host outdoor performances.
Along with these new elements, the design maintains much of the site’s current open green space in the Great Lawn, in addition to preserving and enhancing gardens throughout the park. Click here to view the conceptual designs prepared for Lovett Park by the Community Design Collaborative.

In 2007, Mt. Airy USA completed a placemaking and streetscape improvement plan that identified the vacant green space beside Lovett Memorial Library as an opportunity to enliven the Germantown Avenue commercial corridor by increasing foot traffic and connecting the two commercial nodes of the Avenue.
In 2011, Mt. Airy USA began working with the Community Design Collaborative to help develop a vision for what this site could become. After a series of community meetings that included members of the East and West Mt. Airy Neighbors civic groups, business owners, and area residents, the design team generated a conceptual design plan for the site. The plan reflects the variety of park uses suggested by community members and envision Lovett Park as a versatile destination park for the library and surrounding neighborhood.
Mt. Airy USA, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and community partners are now working toward the next milestone in the project, which is to transform the conceptual plans into detailed, construction-ready documents. Mt. Airy USA has already begun to raise funds for the next phase of design development necessary to implement the plan.
